Dental Sealants

A Simple Preventative Solution

Dental sealants are thin, clear coatings we place on the chewing surfaces of your back teeth to help block out cavity-causing bacteria and the deep stains that like to settle into those grooves. They’re a quick, comfortable option for kids and adults who want extra protection. Sealants can last for a few years, and we’ll check them at routine visits and reapply as needed when they start to wear.

What Do Sealants Do For Your Smile?

Sealants can help protect your back teeth, where tiny grooves and pits tend to trap food and plaque even with good brushing. By sealing those hard-to-reach areas, it’s easier to keep the teeth clean, reduce staining, and lower the risk of cavities. Kids and adults can both be a good fit for sealants when extra protection matters most on the chewing surfaces.

Are Dental Sealants Right For You?

With a thorough exam, we can tell if sealants are a good fit for your smile. They can benefit patients of all ages, and they’re especially helpful for kids who are still learning solid brushing and flossing habits. If you’ve had sealants before, we can replace worn ones easily. Most sealants naturally wear down over about one to three years after they’re placed.

What To Expect When Getting Dental Sealants

Sealant treatments are quick, simple, and can usually be done in just a few minutes during your visit. We start by cleaning and drying the back teeth, then we apply a clear protective coating to the chewing surfaces where cavities tend to start. The sealant is set with a special UV light, and we repeat the same steps for any other teeth that need added protection. You’ll still want to brush and floss like normal, since sealants only protect the chewing surfaces, not between teeth or the front surfaces.
