Tooth Extractions

What are Tooth Extractions?

Extractions help protect your oral health when a tooth is causing pain, infection risk, or ongoing issues that won’t improve on their own. Some patients need a tooth removed after advanced gum disease, while others need an extraction when a wisdom tooth is impacted and creating pressure. We’ll explain your options, keep you comfortable, and send you home with a clear plan for healing.

When Is A Tooth Extraction Needed?

Sometimes an extraction is the safest move when a tooth can’t be saved. A problem tooth can put the rest of your mouth at risk, so removing it early can prevent shifting, infection, and damage to nearby teeth and gums.

Extractions are commonly recommended when a tooth is severely decayed, cracked below the gumline, repeatedly infected, affected by advanced gum disease, impacted (like wisdom teeth), causing crowding, or creating pain that won’t resolve with other treatment. We’ll confirm what’s going on with an exam and X-rays, then walk you through the simplest path to relief and a healthy recovery.

What To Expect During A Tooth Extraction

We start by getting you comfortable with the right numbing or sedation option, which we’ll review with you ahead of time. Once you’re numb and relaxed, we gently remove the tooth and clean the area. If needed, we’ll place a few small stitches, then have you bite on gauze to control bleeding. If sedation was used, you’ll rest in recovery until you’re ready to head out, and you’ll need someone to drive you home. Before you leave, we’ll walk you through clear aftercare instructions so you know exactly what to do next.
